We recently just swooped up the white wizard of all developers. A big STS welcome to infamous Josh Batchelor. This dude is 2 legit 2 quit. Got any nerd questions? Come at him bro. Chances are he’s been there and done that. Twice. With his eyes closed. While eating 3 Otter Pops. He gets things done on the computers so hard he makes Neo look like a luddite. Did we mention he takes care of business on a snowboard too? We’re stoked to have him aboard the STS express and can’t wait to see what craziness he conjures up with his glorious code.

This has been the summer of exotic interns at STS. We’ve got peeps representing Brazil, France, Mexico, the Philippines and even the Navajo nation. We have a feeling we learned more from them than they did from us. Things like: Frenchys embarrass Brazilians at ping-pong. Filipinos eat Honey Nut Cheerios nonstop and can carry 5 times their body weight in stacks of paper. IBS is a dominant trait in Mexicans. A Navajo Taco has 30,000 calories. Brazilians have an irrational fear of mangos and milk mixing together and killing you.

Today we are losing the first of our foreign friends. Hugo the Frenchy is going back home to hop around with his fellow froggies, eat baguettes and practice his epic mime routine in his tight stripped shirt and raspberry beret. We will miss him. Even though he is hardwired to hate Americans, we hope he makes an exception for his STS family in his cold black French heart.

Burton App is a go.

The planets finally aligned and we got the chance to work with the granddaddy of snowboarding. We teamed up with our good friends at MSI to make a sick Burton app for Nokia to stoke out a worldwide audience. We first wrote and launched it for the Nokia on the WRT platform. Then we did an iPhone version, which is currently being routed through Burton and should be in the app sore soon. We’re also hooking it up for Android. The LiftLine.tv app basically turns your smart phone into a virtual TV where you can watch multiple Burton channels chuck full of sweet streaming content. The backend CMS allows Burton to upload limitless amounts of videos and even channels on the fly, which are automatically synced with the Level 3 network and streamed seamlessly through the app. The iPhone version lets you pick and choose your favorite content and even create your own network. This was a beast to get done but we’re beyond stoked how it turned out. Working with Burton is a rare privilege not many peeps get. We can’t wait for the next time.

Christmas Card on Crack

So we got a little nuts with our Christmas card this year. We’re into the Holidays so we decided to do it up real big like Oprah’s undies. The cards we sent out had scratch off codes where people could go to our Christmas site (stsworkshop.com) and pick a gift from under the STS tree. Then we sent out a potpourri of presents that ranged form the awesome to the borderline offensive. To mange all of this we built a CMS on the back end so we could track who checked in, what present they selected and who got shipped what when. For those who didn’t get cards/gifts we created a Zombie Elf Attack game where the top high scorers could earn presents. We illustrated and developed the entire game in house. Our nerds got skills yo. On the Christmas site there was also a gift gallery so you could see the ridiculous gifts everyone else got. We also had a give a gift section where you could send friends fake certificates for land deeds, star naming and donations to the Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Can’t Read Good, in their name. We also added in a Pewee Herman cameo, singing shark and shit-talking squirrel for good measure. All in all it was a long ways to go for a roast beef sandwich but serious good times. Wait till you see what we do next year.
